Ph.D. Position in Wildlife toxicology:
Effects of contaminants in bats and small mammals.
The Ecotox Lab of Dr. Beatrice Hernout in the Institute for a Sustainable Environment (ISE) and the Department of Biology at Clarkson University (Potsdam, NY) is looking for a creative and motivated Ph.D. student interested in studying the effects of contaminants in bats and small mammals. The Ecotox Lab and Center for Air Resources Engineering & Sciences (CARES) provide major equipment for analytical chemistry analyses and molecular biology. This position will involve collaboration with the American Museum of Natural History and will possibly involve field sessions in the area of Potsdam, the Great Lakes and Belize. The main objectives of the Ecotox lab are focused on 1) assessing the exposure and bioaccumulation of chemicals in wildlife; 2) evaluating the potential adverse effects and predicting the associated risks; and 3) extrapolating risk predictions from individual to populations or communities.
This position starts January 2019. Financial support will be provided for 1 year as a teaching assistant position, renewable (up to 3 years) subject to sufficient progress. TA position provides the student with a biweekly stipend and up to 30 credit hours per fiscal year of tuition paid. The student will be responsible for 12h/week to support an assigned class and make progress on scholarly research (up to 20h/week during the semester).

Qualifications: A master's degree in environmental toxicology, environmental sciences, ecology or related field is preferred. Experience in analytical chemistry, molecular biology, field work, modeling (agent-based model, population modeling) would be highly beneficial. The Ph.D. student is expected to do research in the domains described, write a Ph.D. dissertation and publish research outcomes in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
