Amelie Segarra, PhD
(Term 2022 - present)
University of California, Davis
University of California, Davis
Dr. Amelie Segarra is an Assistant Adjunct Professor at the Anatomy, Physiology & Cell Biology department at University of California, Davis. The Segarra Lab focuses on understanding the effect of abiotic (e.g., temperature, salinity, pesticides) and biotic (e.g. viruses, bacteria, parasites) stressors on metabolism and cell physiology in aquatic organisms using behavioral, genomic and molecular approaches. She uses fish and bivalve models towards understanding the mechanisms of action of contaminants and/or pathogens. Her interest spans the aquatic host-pathogen-environment interactions, with specific expertise that include genomics and biochemistry, physiology, toxicology, and animal behavior. She integrates these skills toward addressing specific ecosystem health questions as they relate to model species and species of conservation concern.
Amelie received a Masters in Engineering Biotechnology at Sup’Biotech Paris, France in 2010, and a PhD in Biological Health at the Southern Brittany University in Vannes, France in 2014. She held three postdoctoral positions; First, she was a post-doctoral researcher at the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at Stony Brook University (US) studying microbial dysbiosis and mucosal immunology in bivalves. Then she obtained a post-doctoral fellowship at the European Institute for Marine Studies at the Western Brittany University (France) working on organisms’ adaptations to changing environments. These opportunities led her to join the University of California, Davis (US), where she conducted studies on environmental toxicology and disease ecology in the aquatic systems, as a post-doctoral researcher.
As a new member of the Board, Amelie looks forward to help promote science, sharing ideas and expanding her opportunities for collaborations with professionals at the regional level.
