Justin Miller-Schulze
(Term 2023 - Present)
Justin is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Sacramento State University, and an Analytical and Environmental Chemist focused on the development and/or adaption of analytical methodology to quantify chemical tracers in environmental or biological matrices. Currently, projects in Justin’s group run the gamut from quantification of volatile organics in additive manufacturing (3D printing) emissions to measuring endocrine disruptors in invertebrate tissue to non-targeted metabolomics for flower nectar and invertebrates, among others. Justin joined the faculty in the Department of Chemistry at Sacramento State in Fall of 2014. Justin teaches classes in quantitative analysis, chemical instrumentation, chemical separations, and mass spectrometry. Previously, Justin had postdoctoral appointments at the Center for Urban Waters at the University of Washington, Tacoma as well as the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He earned his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Washington in Seattle in 2009 and his Bachelor's of Science in Environmental Chemistry from UC San Diego in 2003. In his free time, Justin chases his two young sons, Owen and Malcolm, around, and enjoys cycling.
Mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, among others, in their scientific and career pursuits is a highlight of Justin’s position at Sacramento State and in the scientific community at large. Justin is excited to further develop relationships through NorCal SETAC to serve students at Sacramento State and beyond.
